Some kilometers west of my home village Dettelbach lies Wuerzburg, the capital of the District of Lower Franconia, State of Bavaria, Germany.
Wuerzburg is a 1300 years old baroque town and almost completely destroyed in the Second World War.
Now about 130.000 people are living there, one of the cities of the Romantic Road.

The social environment of the city is mainly characterized by its schools and universities. The cultural highlight of the year is the Mozart festival.
But also the "Wuerzburger Stein", a dry wine bottled in so called "Bocksbeutel", is popular both with locals and visitors.
The main form of sport is Basketball, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Maverics is the most famous sportsman of town.

The Julius Maximilian University was founded in 1402 and created 14 Nobel Prize Winners so far.
I.e. Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen found the X-Rays in Wuerzburg in 1895.
Main attractions are the Residence (World Culture Heritage) of the former Prince-Bishops, the Fortress Marienberg, the bridges and churches of the town.
